President

Rux Bentley is a life-long resident of Columbiana and a graduate of Shelby County High School and Auburn University.

Rux joined Rux Carter Insurance Agency in 1994, becoming the third generation of his family to work in the agency. In 1997 he received the designation of Certified Insurance Counselor.

Rux has been very active within the Alabama Independent Insurance Agent’s Association. In June 2009, Rux will become the President of the Alabama Independent Insurance Agents Association. He is the only agent in the state that has ever been awarded the Alabama Independent Insurance Young Agent of the Year twice (1998 & 2007). In 2006 he was named the Outstanding Board Member of the Year. He has been active on several committees: State Board of Directors, Young Agents (Chairman, 2000), Excalibur Foundation (Chairman, 2002), Legislative (Chairman, 2005-2006), Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, and Education.

Rux was on the Board of Directors for the InVEST program through the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of America from 2001-3. InVEST develops a diverse pool of insurance professionals and informed consumers by educating high school and community college students on careers in insurance, financial services and risk management.

In 1996 Rux participated in Leadership Shelby County. He was on the original committee that founded Youth Leadership Shelby County and served as chairman in 2002. He served on the Board of Directors for Leadership Shelby County from 2000-2003.

Rux served on the Board of Directors of Court Appointed Special Advocates of Shelby County (CASA) from 1998-2009 and served as vice-president from 2000-2008. CASA screens and trains community volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected children in court.

Rux has been a member of the Shelby County Republican Party Executive Committee since 1998. From 2002-2004 he served as chairman of the Shelby County Republican Party.

Rux is an active member of Columbiana United Methodist Church and has served in many capacities over the years: Youth Director, Lay Leader, Staff-Parrish Relations Committee, Education Director, and Sr. High Sunday School Teacher.

Rux is married to the former Amanda Sellers and has two daughters, Maddie and McKlane.
