George Bentley

George Bentley is a life-long resident of Columbiana. He graduated from both Shelby County High School and Auburn University.

George has been in the Insurance business for almost 40 years having started working for Rux Carter Insurance Agency in 1970 after graduating from Auburn. He purchased Rux Carter Insurance Agency in 1977. He is the acting Principal/President of the agency with responsibilities including agency management as well as production.

George has been very active with the Alabama Independent Insurance Association. He served as president of the association in 1995 and elected State-National Director in 2001. In 1999 he received the Alabama Independent Insurance Agent of the Year award.

George has been very active in the community. He is the Chairman of the Columbiana Industrial Development Board. He also served as President of the Shelby County High School Athletic Booster Club, Board of Directors for the South Shelby Chamber of Commerce, and the Board of Trustees for Shelby County High School.

George is an active member of the Columbiana United Methodist Church and has served as Church Treasurer, Chairman of the Administrative Council, Board of Trustees, Children’s Sunday School Teacher and various other committees.

George has been married to the former Sharon Benson for over 20 years. He has 6 children: Sherri, Rux, Amy, Tommy, Casey, and Rachel. George is a proud “Papa” to 5 beautiful granddaughters and is excited to FINALLY have his first grandson on the way in August 2009!
