For nearly 100 years, Rux Carter Insurance Agency has served the needs of families and businesses in Shelby County and surrounding areas.  We are proud to claim the title of being the oldest insurance agency in Shelby County.

Mr. J. R. White established the agency in 1906.  During those days, insurance policies were recorded in logbooks.  We actually have some of those original “policies” in our office today.

In 1947, Rux Carter purchased and incorporated the agency.  Mr. Carter previously worked for Liberty National Insurance Company.  Rux was a very active member of the Shelby County community.  He was an original board member of Shelby Memorial Hospital (currently Shelby Baptist Medical).  He was also the first president of the Columbiana Kiwanis Club.

Rux Carter sold the agency to the present owner, George Bentley, in 1977.  George Bentley started working in the agency in 1970 after graduating from college.  George has been very active with the Alabama Independent Insurance Association.  He served as president in 1998 and received the Alabama Insurance Agent of the Year award in 1999.

Rux Bentley joined the staff of Rux Carter Insurance Agency in 1994 becoming the third generation of his family to work in the agency.  Rux received the Young Independent Agent of the Year award in 1998 and served as chairman of the Alabama Young Agent’s Committee in 2000.

Today, we’ve certainly come a long way from the “log books” of the past.   Our office is equipped with the latest technology that enables us to provide our customers with quick and accurate quotes with all the many companies we represent.  The ability to comparatively rate allows the agency to provide the best available price for every need and situation.
